Dubai: A Qantas flight made an emergency landing in Oman on Friday after a passenger suffered a suspected heart attack but died before the aircraft landed.

Australia’s The Age newspaper reported on Saturday a male passenger suffered from a suspected heart attack on board the Airbus A380 Qantas flight QF9 from Melbourne to London.

"The plane started to make a very fast descent and then later the pilot confirmed that they were making an emergency landing in Muscat, Oman," a fellow passenger told The Age.

The man was treated on the floor in front of passengers but died before the plane reached Oman.

"He died before they could land and when they landed a string of people came on board to examine the situation … About an hour later they removed the body and distraught wife and travelling companions,” the passenger told The Age.

Qantas confirmed to The Age the landing was due to an onboard medical emergency.

"Our crew did everything they could, including helping perform CPR with a doctor who was on board," a spokesperson told The Age.

QF9 stayed in Muscat for four hours, according to The Age, before departing for Dubai.
