Dubai: The Philippines’ flag carrier said it continues to operate its flights to and from Qatar despite the ongoing diplomatic rift in the Gulf.

A PAL spokesperson said the Philippines’ bilateral ties with Qatar has so far not been affected, so their operations will not be suspended. The airline, which has a huge market in the Middle East, operates flights to and from Doha, Qatar every week.

The airline, however, is awaiting any advisory from the office of Department of Foreign Affairs.

“The Philippines is not party to the dispute and our ties with Qatar will remain unaffected,” PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna has been quoted by the local media as saying.

Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen and Maldives severed ties with Qatar on Monday, leading a number of airlines to suspend their flights to and from the Gulf state.

The move prompted the Philippine government to stop the deployment of overseas workers to  Qatar.
