Dubai: UAE residents who have booked a National Day getaway and are travelling abroad during the long weekend are advised to get to the airport earlier than normal to avoid delays.

Carriers are preparing to accommodate thousands of passengers passing through the Dubai Airport over the next few days, and travellers are warned that the most hectic time to check in will be on Thursday, when most of the flyers are expected to swamp the terminals.

And considering that there are ongoing roadworks around the airport, flyers will be less inconvenienced if they allot more time to get to the airport. Airline counters will be available to check in flyers as early as six hours prior to departure.

The private sector in the UAE will enjoy a three-day holiday  from Thursday, November 30, until Saturday, December 2 and a lot of residents have booked short getaways in popular destinations abroad.

Emirates airline said that based on the latest booking figures, at least 113,000 passengers are expected to pass through Terminal 3 and three Concourses from Wednesday, November 29, to Sunday, December 3.

“The busiest day is expected to be tomorrow, Thursday 30 November, when almost 35,000 passengers will make their way to emirates’ Terminal 3 to their departures,” the airline said on Wednesday.

“With road works and construction in progress around the airport, customers are encouraged to plan extra time to get to the airport to avoid delays. Passengers can physically check in at the airport as early as six hours before departing on their flight.”

Flyers are requested to check in no later than 90 minutes prior to departure, regardless of class of travel. “Customers who check in less than 60 minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure will not be accepted for travel.”

Travellers can also opt to check in online from 48 hours to 90 minutes before flight departure. There are also car park check-in facilities with 16 counters operated by Emirates, to allow customers to check in and drop off their luggage from 24 hours to six hours prior to departure.
