Dubai: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) yesterday put to rest reports of a new airline about to be launched from the emirate of Fujairah.

An Arab newspaper reported Wednesday that UAE investors were planning a low-cost carrier based in Fujairah, but no paperwork has yet been submitted.

Saif Mohammad Al Suwaidi, director-general of GCAA, said, "There has been no application for a new airline in Fujairah. If there is anything, I will be the one to approve it," he told Gulf News.

Earlier this year, he said that investors from Abu Dhabi had applied for a new budget carrier and studies for providing a license were underway.
