Abu Dhabi: The UAE national carriers are getting ready to ferry scores of tourists visiting the country during the World EXPO 2020 in Dubai, according to Dr Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saif Al Nahayan, Chairman of Rotana Jet.

Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saif, who is now in Colombo for Rotana Jet’s first commercial flight to Sri Lanka, said in an interview with WAM that Rotana Jet will be at the heart of that major event.

“We are planning to increase our destinations in the (Samena) region and to expand our fleet to meet the growing demand for private & business jet operations.”

He revealed that the company is planning to establish new routes by 2016 to Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, India and Pakistan.

Profits

Shaikh Ahmad said that the company will soon break even and start to make profits, following recent addition of two aircraft, Airbus A319 and Embraer EMB 145 to its fleet.

“Currently, we have a staff of 250-300 pilots, engineers, and ground and cabin crews who helped take around 6,000 passengers last year to their destinations,” he added.

Rotana Jet commenced on Thursday its new service between Abu Dhabi, Al Bateen Airport and Mattala and Colombo in Sri Lanka.

The airline currently operates flights to Bahrain, Muscat and Salalah in addition to the flights to Sir Bani Yas Island, Fujairah, Delma and Dubai.
