Dubai: Emirates will introduce new “innovative” features on their Boeing 777-300ERs (extended range) from late 2016, a senior Boeing executive said on Saturday.

Emirates has been working on a new first class product for its fleet of 777s and Airbus A380s that it says will be similar to a private railway cabin. The airline has been tightlipped on details for the new product, including on when it will be rolling it out.

“Some of the new features Emirates has been looking at for [their 777x’s] will be delivered on their airplanes (777-300ERs) by the end of next year but not all of them,” John Wojick, senior vice president of Global Sales & Marketing at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, told reporters at a briefing in Dubai.

Asked about Boeing’s comments, Emirates said it does not comment on products under development.

“We will release information when the time is right," an Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News by email.

Wojick said Boeing has been “working very closely” with Emirates on the new premium product.

Move forward

“Many of the things they’re working to do on the 777x we’re going to be able to move forward on the 777-300ER,” he said.

Emirates is the world’s largest operator of the 777-300ER, and the A380, and is a launch customer of the 777x programme. It will receive its first 777x, the latest series in the 777 family, in 2020.

Shaikh Majid Al Mualla, divisional senior vice president of the Commercial Operations Centre at Emirates airline, said on May 3, that the company was in the “final stages” of developing the new premium product.

Emirates operates a fleet of a 149 777s, including 108 777-300ERs. It is the largest 777 operator and has 150 777x variants on order.
