Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, opened Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central on Sunday with the unveiling of a plaque.

Shaikh Mohammad later toured the airport with Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates airline and Group and President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Paul Griffiths, Dubai Airports Chief Executive Officer and other dignitaries.

The inaugural Wizz Air flight to Budapest was welcomed with a two water cannon salute. Shaikh Mohammad viewed the salute from the runway.

The Wizz Air flight to Budapest departed at 12.30pm on Sunday.

Earlier a passenger checking into the Wizz Air flight said the new airport was "fancy" but took a long time to get to.
