Dubai:

A record number of passengers passed through Abu Dhabi International Airport in July, operator Abu Dhabi Airports said on Wednesday.

A total of 2,100,929 passengers used the airport, the first time passenger numbers have exceeded 2 million in a single month, and 23.3 per cent more than July 2014, according to an emailed statement.

There was also a record number of departing passengers in July, which reached over a million.

The number of aircraft landings and take-offs was 15,059, a 14.2 per cent increase over July 2014. The amount of cargo handled at the airport rose by 2.1 per cent to 68,888 metric tonnes.

“The rate at which passenger numbers are increasing year on year continues to follow an upward trend. The figures in July 2015 were boosted by Ramadan and the Eid Al Fitr holiday, as well as the summer holiday season,” stated Ahmad Al Haddabi, Chief Operations Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports.

The top five routes from Abu Dhabi in July were London Heathrow, Bangkok, Doha, Manila and Mumbai, accounting for 16 per cent of all traffic.

Year to July passenger numbers are up 18.1 per cent to 13,212,506 compared to 11,185,739 as on July 31, 2014.
