Freedom Town: Kuwait's Jazeera Airways yesterday reported its operational performance for September, saying it captured leading market share among all Kuwaiti airlines on the majority of the routes it serves.
The only exceptions were the Kuwait-Jeddah and Kuwait-Riyadh routes where it said it had lower seat-allocation restrictions compared to other Kuwaiti airlines. The airline said its report was based on statistics from Kuwait's Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Milestone
The airline, which said it operated in September with an on-time performance of 94.3 per cent, crossed the one-million-passenger mark for the year in September, bringing the total number of flown passengers since establishment in 2005 to 6.5 million, or twice the total population of Kuwait, in just five years.
Jazeera Airways said it was the largest operator of all airlines during the month, which included the Eid holidays, capturing a 35 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Beirut route, a 34 per cent share on the Kuwait-Amman route, and 43 per cent share on the Kuwait-Alexandria route.
The airline also said it captured a leading market share of 42 per cent on the Kuwait-Damascus route.
The report also showed that Jazeera Airways was the largest operator to leisure destinations, capturing an 18 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Istanbul route, 42 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Sharm Al Shaikh route, and 54 per cent market share on the Kuwait-Luxor route.
Jazeera Airways also said it was the market leader again among Kuwait airlines on the two most competitive routes in the airline's network: Kuwait-Dubai, and Kuwait-Bahrain.
Jazeera Airways says it operates to 17 destinations in the Middle East.
It was established in Oct-ober 2005 and has a fleet of 11 new Airbus A320s serving 17 destinations in the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, a company spokesman said.
To date, the airline has flown more than 6.5 million passengers since commencing operations.
In 2009, the airline said it carried more than 1.8 million passengers, capturing over 22 per cent of the market and making it the largest operator at Kuwait Airport.
