Dubai: Kuwaiti-based budget carrier Jazeera Airways will commence flying from Dubai’s secondary airport Al Maktoum International (DWC) in Dubai World Central this week.

While still maintaining all existing services from Dubai International (DXB) the low cost carrier will fly twice weekly from the new airport.

Marwan Boodai, Chairman of Jazeera Airways Group, stated in an email the new airport provided a different offering to travellers.

“Al Maktoum International at DWC adds another dimension to Dubai’s travel markets, it is well positioned not only from Kuwait, for its proximity to Jumeirah and the resorts in that area, but also for customers who want to avoid the city altogether. Additionally, Al Maktoum International at DWC serves customers flying to Abu Dhabi,” he stated.

Jazeera Airways previously used Dubai International as hub for its operations but withdrew prior to Dubai-low cost carrier flydubai entering the market. Despite the loss of its hub in one of the business aviation markets in the world, Jazeera Airways is in no rush to set up base at Al Maktoum.

“It is unlikely that we would move to establish another hub in the Gulf with the current aviation regulations and policies that govern GCC skies,” Boodai stated.

But the airline see’s huge potential in Dubai’s secondary airport which is why they were keen to be there first.

“We firmly believe that Al Maktoum International Airport has a strong potential and one day will become one of the largest airports in the whole region,” Boodai stated.
