Qatar Airways cancelled one of its two daily flights to Hong Kong on Monday and a return flight the following day after a typhoon forced the Chinese city to shut down the airport overnight.

The Doha-based airline also delayed its early morning Tuesday flight to Hong Kong by more than two hours, according to its website.

Hong Kong International Airport reportedly closed on Monday at 10pm until Tuesday 2pm local time as the city braced itself for the strongest typhoon this year. A Qatar Airways service was one of the last flights out of the city, departing three hours late at 10:05pm on Monday, according to the airline’s website.

Meanwhile, Emirates delayed two flights to Hong Kong on Monday by between 9 and 15 hours until early Tuesday morning, according to its website. This had a subsequent roll-on affect to the airline’s schedule with two return flights scheduled to depart Hong Kong shortly after midnight and then later just before 8am local time delayed until Tuesday afternoon, the website showed.

The airline also brought forward the departure time of a Hong Kong service to Dubai by nearly two hours on Monday, with the flight taking off at 8pm local time.

Etihad delayed a daily service on Monday by around 6 hours until early Tuesday morning, its website showed.
