Dubai: Low-cost airline Flydubai is looking at opening a route in Chisinau, Moldova in Eastern Europe.

Although the airline did not divulge on a timeframe for the launch, it confirmed to Gulf News that it is considering operations in Moldova.

Flydubai “has announced 15 new routes since the start of 2013, however Chisinau in Moldova is a route that is currently being evaluated,” a flyDubai spokesperson told Gulf News in an emailed statement.

According to the website of the government of Moldova, flydubai will operate two weekly flights between Chisinau and Dubai starting from November 21 this year.

“This will give Moldova’s citizens the possibility to connect to new destinations. We will become a bridge of setting friendship relations between Moldova and the United Arab Emirates, as well as with other countries less accessible for citizens because of the distance,” Jeyhun Efendi, head of commercial operations at flyDubai for the UAE, Middle East, Europe and CIS said in a statement posted on the government’s website.

According to the statement, which was posted on August 12,the announcement of the launch of the new route will be made next month.

“Prime Minister Lurie Leanca and flydubai Chief Executive Officer Gaith Al Gaith will inform about the official launch of the direct flight by flydubai between Dubai and Chisinau in next September,” it said.
