Dubai: Flydubai temporarily cancelled its once a week service to Donetsk in Ukraine on Monday due to the unexpected closure of the airport just a week after cutting frequency on the route.

A flydubai spokesperson confirmed the Monday service was cancelled, however, did not specifically comment on potential impact on future flights to the Ukrainian city.

Armed Pro-Russian separatists reportedly took control of the international terminal at Donetsk International and forced the closure of the airport on Monday while presidential polls took place across the country.

Last week, flydubai cut frequencies to all of its Ukrainian destinations following increasing instability in the country that has been marred by violence since late last year.

Sharjah’s Air Arabia Donetsk service continues to be suspended until further notice, an airline spokesperson confirmed.
