Dubai: Flydubai is not in talks to buy a stake in Indian low cost carrier, SpiceJet, a spokesperson from the Dubai airline told Gulf News on Wednesday dismissing an earlier report.

Indian newswire PTI reported on Wednesday that flydubai and SpiceJet are discussing a potential partnership that includes flydubai touting the idea of taking a stake in the Indian budget airline.

“flydubai confirms that it is not in talks with SpiceJet,” the spokesperson said by email.

On Sunday, SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Singh, said in Dubai the airline has been approached by Gulf carriers who are interested in buying into it.

“Some of the Gulf airlines have expressed an interest in SpiceJet as we have come back into the market, but this is not the right time to be diluting the equity,” Singh had said without naming the carriers.

SpiceJet shares have jumped more than 290 per cent this year following three consecutive quarters of net profit.

Singh, a SpiceJet co-founder, retook control of the airline in December 2014 by acquiring a majority stake.
