Etihad will fly daily to Johannesburg from August
Etihad Airways said yesterday it will increase its frequency from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg from twice a week to daily from August 1.
Dubai: Etihad Airways said yesterday it will increase its frequency from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg from twice a week to daily from August 1.
Etihad began flying to the commercial capital of South Africa in December 2005, and the airline said it was adding more flights due to popular demand from business and leisure travellers, in addition to the growing South African community living and working in the Gulf.
There are an estimated 100,000 South Africans living in the Gulf, 20,000 of whom are in the UAE.
Geert Boven, Etihad Airways executive vice president for sales and services, said: "Etihad's base in Abu Dhabi provides a natural air-bridge linking the Gulf communities and Etihad's network to South Africa.
"The demand for daily flights between Abu Dhabi and Johannesburg has grown considerably during the past 12 months, whether it is UAE-based South Africans flying home with Etihad or holidaymakers visiting South Africa."
To celebrate the new service Etihad is offering promotional fares for flights to Johannesburg. Return economy fares start from Dh2,020 and return business class starts from Dh9,850, not including taxes. In addition, Etihad Guest loyalty programme members can earn "double miles" when travelling to Johannesburg throughout August.
