Abu Dhabi:  Etihad Airways is planning to arrange for additional flights from Egyptian cities to Abu Dhabi to fly out people affected by the political turmoil in Egypt, an Etihad spokesperson told Gulf News.

Already two chartered flights have landed in Abu Dhabi from Cairo bringing a total of 355 passengers, including UAE nationals and residents, to the UAE. A third flight from Cairo is expected to arrive in Abu Dhabi this evening.

"Etihad Airways is monitoring the situation in Egypt very closely," the spokesperson said. "We are also working closely with the UAE authorities to provide supplementary flights as required."

Despite the situation in Egypt, all normal flights to Cairo and Alexandria are operating as scheduled. The airline currently connects Cairo with two daily flights and Alexandria with four flights per week.

However, the airline has advised customers to check its website for the latest updates.
