DUBAI: Etihad Aviation Group has appointed Mark Powers its new chief financial officer. He will join the group this month.

Powers, currently Professor of Finance at Tulane University’s AB Freeman School of Business, was formerly CFO at JetBlue and Vice-President Treasury, Corporate Finance, for Northwest Airlines. Etihad said in a statement on Tuesday.

He also served as Treasurer and Associate General Counsel for Continental Airlines and Director Customer Finance and Commercial Engine Programs for GE Aviation.

He will be responsible for finance across the group’s five divisions — Etihad Airways, Etihad Airways Engineering, Etihad Airport Services, Hala Group and Airline Equity Partners.

“The Etihad Aviation Group Board believes Mark and the wider finance team will play a pivotal role in helping to guide Etihad onto the next stage of its development,” Tony Douglas, the newly-appointed Etihad Aviation Group CEO, said in a statement.

Powers, who will report directly to Douglas, said: “I am looking forward to joining Etihad Aviation Group and taking on this unique opportunity to lead the financial development of the group’s divisions at this exciting moment in its history.”

The earlier Group CFO James Rigney stepped down from his position in July last year, at the same time as CEO James Hogan left the company. Ricky Thirion, who has been Interim Group CFO, will resume his position as Group Treasurer.
