Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways and airberlin expanded its partnership on Monday with the unveiling of a joint livery Airbus A320. The newly designed aircraft, which carries both the airberlin and Etihad Airways names along the body, marks the launch of a new media campaign.

“Moving Forward” will run from January until March 2014 and feature the new partnership logo of the two airlines in advertising in Germany.

The partnership between the two airlines, formed in 2011 when Eithad announced it was taking a 29.21 per cent stake in airberlin, has carried close to 900,000 passengers and contributed €200 million (Dh1,103.61 million) in revenue, according to a joint Etihad and airberlin statement.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways President and Chief Executive Officer and Vice-Chairman of airberlin, stated that Etihad Airways fully supports airberlin and its management.

“Since the launch of the partnership two year ago, commercial ties between Etihad Airways and airberlin have deepened significant … [Increasing] the destinations and flight options for guests.”

In 2014 the two airlines will strengthen their partnership with joint sales operations and code sharing across the networks of both airlines.

Currently, 66 airberlin routes carry the Etihad Airways ‘EY’ code and 33 Etihad Airways routes carry airberlin’s AB code.
