DUBAI: Emirates has released a time-lapse video of one of its Airbus A380s being stripped and repainted at its aircraft appearance centre at Dubai International.

The 1 minute and 38 second clip shows the world’s largest passenger jet being taken into a hangar at Dubai International where 34 employees worked for 6,000 hours across 15 days to completely repaint the aircraft.

Emirates, the world’s biggest wide-body aircraft operator, repaints its aircraft every seven to eight years and in 2015 stripped and repainted 33 jets. This included three A380s, 22 Boeing 777s and eight aircraft that were retired from the fleet, Emirates said in a statement on Thursday.

Painting an Emirates aircraft is a strict process. When parked on the ground the Emirates logo and flag of the UAE on the tail need to line up with every other Emirates aircraft.

The Emirates Aircraft Appearance Centre is also where the airline installs its customised decals on its aircraft. In 2015, Emirates branded one of its Boeing 777’s chartered by English football’s Arsenal with images of the team’s squad.
