Dubai: With the gradual reopening of Europe's airspace after Iceland's volcanic eruption, Emirates said its recovery operations are being ramped up to help clear the backlog of passengers throughout its network.

In addition to the extra flights that were put on to London Gatwick over the past few days, the airline said it is also boosting services on its Asian routes.

Richard Vaughan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations Worldwide, said: "We are into the fourth day of resumed services in and out of Europe, as well as offering extra flights where possible. Saturday [yesterday], we put on an extra flight to London Gatwick and two extra flights to Bangkok. Sunday [today] will see three extra services to London Gatwick — so we are really ramping up these extra flights to approach the backlog from the east and the west."

Emirates has advised that passengers travelling to and from the UK and the rest of Europe via Dubai, who held bookings for travel during the disruption, are now being accepted, provided they hold confirmed bookings on their new flights.

All passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport on www.emirates.com.
