Dubai: Emirates delivered a clear message to the Danish capital on Wednesday night that daily flights to Dubai were just weeks away.

A brand new non-stop service starts between Dubai and Copenhagen on 1st August, the first time Emirates has launched flights into Scandinavia.

Road show event

More than 500 guests from the Danish travel industry and wider business community joined a high profile road show event at the Royal Danish Playhouse, bringing an introduction to the airline and its home of Dubai.

The event was presented by Danish actress, Sidse Babett Knudson, with headline entertainment from Danish pop sensation, Medina.

During the evening, guests had the chance to see elements of the airline's flagship A380 aircraft with a replica Onboard Shower Spa, Onboard Lounge and First Class Private Suite on display.

Media gathering

Earlier in the day, the Danish media met with Richard Vaughan, Emirates' Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Worldwide; Salem Obaidalla, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Europe & Russian Federation and Pradeep Kumar, Senior Vice President, Cargo Revenue, Optimisation and Systems.

The media gathering was also attended by the newly appointed Country Manager for Emirates in Denmark, Teddy Zebitz, along with representatives from Wonderful Copenhagen and Copenhagen Airport.

"This new service is our first venture into Scandinavia and flights to Copenhagen will open up a new region on our growing network, connecting passengers and cargo to our state of the art hub in Dubai. We are now five weeks from the launch and into the final stages of preparations," said Mr Vaughan.

"We are very much aware of the fact that Emirates' plans will be of great value for Copenhagen and Denmark," said Lars Bernhard Jorgensen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen and Chairman of Copenhagen Connected, a route development programme.

"The importance of better accessibility from Copenhagen to South Asia, South East Asia and Australia cannot be exaggerated. Connections via Emirates' mega hub in Dubai can help us here", said Mr Jorgensen.

Great news for all Scandinavian travellers

"Emirates' new service to Dubai is great news for all Scandinavian travellers. The daily year-round route strengthens the access, not only to the Middle East, but also South East Asia, India, and Australia due to Emirates' extensive network," added Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airports.

"Secondly, Emirates' network will, with certainty, bring more foreign travellers to Denmark for the benefit of Danish tourism and the business communities in the Oresund Region."

Copenhagen route

Emirates will be operating an Airbus A330-200 on the Copenhagen route in a three-class configuration. On board, passengers can enjoy award winning service from Emirates' highly trained, multinational cabin crew.

EK 151 will leave Dubai each day at 0830hrs and arrive in Copenhagen at 1310hrs. EK 152 departs Copenhagen at 1455hrs, arriving in Dubai at 2315hrs.

Copenhagen is the airline's 27th European destination and 114th globally. So far in 2011, Emirates has launched flights to Basra and Geneva. After Copenhagen, services to St Petersburg will be launched on 1st November followed by Baghdad on 13th November.
