Dubai: Emirates is offering passengers booked to travel to Bali, Indonesia, the option change their flights to an alternative destinations as flights in and out of the islands airport continue to face disruption.

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport was closed for several days last week after volcanic ash from East Java’s Mount Raung drifted over the island. The airport reopened on Saturday to later close and reopen once again on Sunday.

Emirates is offering passengers who have booked to travel to Bali “on or before July 9 2015 with travel taking place before July 20 2015, the option to travel to one of the following alternate Emirates destinations; Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, Male, Mauritius, Seychelles or Phuket,” an airline spokesperson told Gulf News by email.

Thousands of holiday makers have been left stranded following the  closure of the airport, which has come during  the peak tourist season of one of Asia’s most popular destinations.

Emirates is currently operating its daily Dubai-Bali-Dubai service with a 10 hour delay “to ensure that flights are operating in and out of the city during daylight hours,” the spokesperson said.

Passengers who choose to rebook in the same class will not incur an additional charge. Passengers who intend on travelling to Bali are advised to contact their local Emirates office or check emirates.com for the latest flight status, the spokesperson said.
