Dubai: Volcanic ash on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali once again disrupted airline services on Sunday with Emirates delaying its daily flight from Dubai by 11 hours.

The islands’ airport, Ngurah Rai International, was again closed on Sunday as blooms of volcanic ash cloud billowed from Mount Raung in East Java.

Emirates’ Bali to Dubai service on Monday July 13 will also be delayed by 10 hours.

The delayed departure time is “an additional safety measure following the volcanic ash could,” an Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News by email.

The delays “ensure that flights operating in and out of the city are conducted during daylight hours,” the spokesperson added.

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International only reopened on Saturday after being closed for several days by Indonesian authorities due to the ash cloud. Emirates said on Saturday it had resumed services.

Emirates is advising passengers to check emirates.com for the latest update on their flight.

Qatar Airways’ services to and from Bali were cancelled on July 10 and July 11 and additional Boeing 777 has been deployed to carry the affected passengers, according to the websites statement.

The Doha-based airline’s Bali services had minor delays on Sunday.

Etihad Airways does not fly to Bali. An Etihad spokesperson told Gulf News flights to the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, are unaffected.
