Dubai: Emirates flights to and from Bali, Indonesia have been delayed by as much as 11 hours after volcanic ash again forced the closure of the holiday island’s airport Ngurah Rai International.

The airline has delayed flights in and out of Bali on Sunday and Monday so that they can operate in and out of the island in daylight hours as an additional safety measure.

“Emirates flights to and from Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International) in Bali on Sunday 12th and Monday 13th of July 2015 will incur a delayed departure time as an additional safety measure following the volcanic ash cloud,” an Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News by email.

“The flights will be delayed for a period of 11 hours from Dubai to Bali and 10 hours from Bali to Dubai to ensure that flights operating in and out of the city are conducted during daylight hours,” the spokesperson added.

The airport was reopened on Saturday by Indonesian authorities after being closed for several days. Emirates said on Saturday it had resumed services.

Emirates is advising passengers to check emirates.com for the latest update on their flight. The spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
