Dubai: Emirates has finalised its $56 billion (in list prices) order for 150 Boeing 777x aircraft, the American aircraft manufacture announced on Wednesday.

Boeing in a statement said that the Emirates order for 115 777-9x’s and 35 777-8x’s has been “finalised”. The deal was first announced at the Dubai Airshow last November.

The order includes options for 50 additional aircraft, which if exercised, would take the order value to $75 billion at list prices.

“With the order for 150 777Xs, Emirates now has 208 Boeing 777s pending delivery, creating and securing jobs across the supply chain,” stated Emirates President Tim Clark.

Emirates counts for half of Boeing’s amassed 300 orders and commitments from six customers worldwide for the 777x.

Fuel efficiency

The 777x, an updated variant of an existing model, will have improved fuel efficiency. According to Boeing, the 777-9x will be 12 per cent more fuel efficient than any competing airline and the 777-8x will be 5 per cent more efficient. Production is set to begin in 2017 with delivering targeted for 2020.

“I’m confident the 777X — with its new engines and all-new composite wing design — will bring superior value in terms of performance, efficiency and reliability to Emirates and our other launch customers,” stated Ray Conner, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO.
