Dubai: An Emirates flight from China to Dubai on Sunday was forced to divert to Pakistan due to a medical emergency involving a passenger on board, the airline said Monday.

Flight EK309 from Beijing, China landed in Karachi, Pakistan on Sunday “due to a passenger requiring emergency medical attention,” the airline told Gulf News by email.

Emirates did not provide details of the nature of the medical emergency, however, it said that “the passenger was assisted off the aircraft to be attended to by medical professionals.”

The aircraft has since departed Pakistan and was scheduled to land in Dubai at 1.45pm local time, the airline said. Usually, EK309 lands in Dubai at 11.50am daily.

Emirates apologised for any inconvenience and said that the safety of its “passengers and crew is of paramount importance.”

Gulf News earlier reported the diversion occurred on Monday citing information on Emirates’ website. The airline confirmed this was incorrect and that the diversion took place on Sunday.
