Dubai:

Emirates cancelled its daily flight from Sydney to Auckland on Friday “due to a technical issue”, an airline spokesperson told Gulf News on Friday.

The flight operated by an Airbus A380 was scheduled to depart Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport at 8:45am local Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

Emirates did not provide further details behind the cancellation, however, its website said the flight was cancelled “due to maintenance requirements”.

Emirates said the majority of unaffected passengers were accommodated on alternate flights on Friday with the remaining passengers set to travel onwards from Sydney to Auckland on Saturday.

Emirates flies daily from Dubai to Auckland through Sydney and operates flights to and from Australia and New Zealand under a partnership with Australian national carrier Emirates.

“Emirates apologises for the inconvenience caused to our passengers. The safety of our passengers and crew is of the utmost importance,” the spokesperson said.

In an unrelated event, Emirates suspended all flights to Bali in Indonesia on Thursday following the closure of the Bali’s Denpasar Airport due to volcanic ash cloud in the airspace over the island.
