Manama: Kuwaitis studying or receiving medical treatment in Britain have been offered tremendous support by the Emir, who said that they should be given all kinds of assistance following the closure of British airports.

"His Highness the Emir of Kuwait Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah has instructed offering all possible assistance to Kuwaitis stranded abroad as a result of the volcanic ash cloud over Europe, until their return to Kuwait," Shaikh Ali Al Jarrah Al Sabah, acting Minister of Emiri Diwan Affairs, said in a statement.

"The competent official authorities and Kuwaiti embassies abroad have been informed of HH the Emir's orders."

Dr Yaqoub Al Tammar, head of The Kuwait Health Office in London said that they were exerting extra efforts to help Kuwaiti patients who have recovered, but are forced to remain in Britain because of the airport shutdown.

"We have four Kuwaiti patients who ended their treatment and were supposed to return home on Friday evening, but the closure of Heathrow forced them to return to the health office," Al Tammar told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)

"We are taking care of their accommodation until the reopening of the airport."

A telephone hotline was set up by the culture office in London to help students.

"The hot-line will be used to respond to inquiries by all Kuwaitis studying in UK universities and help them," Dr Bandar Al Raqqas, the head of Kuwait's Culture Office, said.

"Some students who are currently in Kuwait are facing problems returning to their schools following the Easter holidays here. The office will contact universities and explain the reasons behind the students' no-show. We are confident that they will understand their situation."
