The agreement was announced by BJA chairman Eisa Al Shaiji and Gulf Air chief executive Samer Al Majali
Manama: Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) members have been granted a 25 per cent discounts on all flights operated by Gulf Air, the association and the airline said on Tuesday.
The agreement was announced by BJA chairman Eisa Al Shaiji and Gulf Air chief executive Samer Al Majali, following a meeting.
BJA is the umbrella for Bahrain-based journalists and media staff. More than 600 members took part in the election of its board earlier this year.
However, its chairman, re-elected after beating his former deputy Adel Marzooq, has been at the centre of a controversy with three board members who alleged that he did not show enough support for team work.
Al Shaiji rejected the claims, saying that they were malicious and aimed to weaken his powers. The three members were eventually dismissed from the board according to the BJA statute, after failing to show up at various meetings.
“We need to focus on our work and on securing the best achievements for journalists in Bahrain. We are grateful to Gulf Air, our national carrier, for its great support and we are confident that more cooperation between the BJA and the airline will be achieved soon,” Al Shaiji told Gulf News.
Al Majali said that the agreement was in line with the airline’s commitment to reinforcing relations with journalists. “It is our duty to help and serve the media and we highly value the dedication of journalists to their work and to highlighting Bahrain’s image,” Al Majali said.
Gulf Air on Sunday said that it would sponsor the first Arab media leaders forum to be held in Bahrain on December 2-3.
