Dubai: Increased cargo and passenger activity in the UAE and Gulf countries has insulated aviation support companies from the ravages of the economic downturn.

Avia Trust FZE, a company established in 2001 in the Dubai Airport Freezone, is seeking to expand its facility by 100 per cent with another warehouse and office to meet increased business and customer requirements.

"The economic downturn has mainly affected the property sector but not cargo business, aircraft charter business or aviation support companies," said Mahmoud Amini, General Manager of Avia Trust FZE. which is engaged in aircraft support services, supplying aircraft parts, leasing, repairing and support for aircraft.

Avia Trust FZE. with a turnover of Dh73.5 million is currently occupying a 374 square metre warehouse and office in the freezone.

Amin, a veteran pilot of 30 years has more than 15 years of management experience.

"In my line of work I have travelled extensively to find suppliers for our business. I am confident that 2010 will be an even better and profitable year."

He said his company works with other companies in Indonesia and Thailand in the Far East to perform required regular aircraft checks. His company also works to obtain overflight permission for his clients' aircraft.

Ebrahim Ahli, Marketing Director of Dubai Airport Freezone, said, "We value our long-term clients and offer them all the support necessary in conducting their business in the freezone and we are happy for them when they succeed in their business."
