Dubai: Airline passengers traveling from the UAE may soon be able to board their flights using just their mobile phones, according to a report.

A study published in Air Transport World Magazine has both Abu Dhabi and Sharjah international airports listed as one of 1,400 airports worldwide who will apply for the Bar Code Boarding Pass (BCBP) system.

Under the system passengers will get their boarding passes texted on their mobile phone. They can then walk through the scanner which will read their “m-boarding” pass.

According to the magazine, the system is likely to be fully operational in 2012.
