Sharjah: Air Arabia, Sharjah-based low-cost carrier (LCC), on Tuesday launched flights to Kozhikode (formerly Calicut).
The inaugural flight was received by Indian delegates upon its arrival at Kozhikode Airport.
Air Arabia is the first Middle East airline to fly to Kozhikode in the Indian state of Kerala. Flights will initially operate three times a week. They will be increased to six a week by the end of May.
"The launch of this regular service to Kozhikode underscores Air Arabia's commitment to the burgeoning Indian market and the state of Kerala," said Adel Ali, board member and chief executive officer of Air Arabia.
"We currently serve 10 destinations in India, three within the state of Kerala alone, and we are keen on continuously providing the best value for money services to this emerging region."
"More people in the large Indian expatriate population living in the UAE and GCC can take advantage of our extensive Middle Eastern network now. Our leadership in the regional LCC market relies on us offering passengers the most competitive fares to the most popular destinations in the Middle East, North Africa and beyond. Our inaugural flight to Kozhikode reflects our ongoing commitment towards this region," he said.
The other two destinations Air Arabia serves in the Indian state of Kerala are Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
In addition to Kerala, Air Arabia flies to seven other destinations in India, which are Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Mumbai and Nagpur.
