Dubai: Abu Dhabi Airports, the operator of airports in the emirate, said it has invested over Dh20 billion in capital development projects over the past 10 years as the company marks its tenth anniversary this month.

In a statement issued by the company on Monday, Abu Dhabi Airports said the biggest infrastructure project undertaken so far was the Midfield Terminal Complex, which is the latest part of expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The new complex will increase the airport’s overall capacity to more than 45 million passengers per year. As part of this redevelopment, a second runway and a third terminal have been completed.

Since 2010, Emiratisation rates have increased from 25 per cent to over 50 per cent in 2015, with 82 per cent of executive management roles now occupied by Emiratis, the company said.

Abu Dhabi Airports’ assets now include Abu Dhabi Airport Business City, and the Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies.

The company was created in 2006 to operate and manage Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Ain Airport. It has since added Al Bateen Executive Airport, a business aviation airport, and Sir Bani Yas and Delma Island Airports to its portfolio.
