Dubai: Passenger traffic at Dubai International Airport reached 7.2 million in September, up 1.7 per cent over the 7 million who used the airport in September 2016.

According to the latest traffic report from operator Dubai Airports, the figure brings passenger traffic in the first nine months of 2017 to 66.6 million, marking a 5.8 per cent over the 62.9 million recorded in the same period in 2016.

The softening of growth in September was due to the splitting of the seasonal rush of travellers during the Eid holiday, which started in August and ended in September, Dubai Airports said.

London was the top destination city (with 346,018 passengers), followed by Kuwait, and Mumbai. India remained the top destination country in terms of passenger traffic (with 931,193 passengers), followed by the UK (548,762 passengers), and Saudi Arabia (536,187 passengers).

In terms of cargo, freighter volumes in September totalled 217,120 tonnes, up nearly 6 per cent year-on-year, Dubai Airports said. Cargo volumes in the first nine months of the year were 3.5 per cent higher year-on-year at 1.96 million tonnes.
