Manila: Six Philippine carriers remain blacklisted and cannot yet fly to Europe, although an initial assessment of their total compliance with international safety standards has been good, a senior official said.

A delegation of the European Union has not yet given the result of its review regarding the safety standards of airline companies such as Air Asia Inc, Air Asia Zest, Air Philippines Corp, Island Aviation Inc, Magnum Air, South East Asian Airlines International, said Beda Badiola, head of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Flight Standards and Inspectorate Service.

“Initially, the EU delegation has assessed that the blacklisted companies have been satisfactorily complying with regulations imposed by CAAP, the Philippine Civil Aviation Regulation, and the International Civil Aviation Standards,” said Badiola, adding, “We hope they will be taken out of the European ban. This will be good for Philippine tourism.”

CAAP wants all Philippines carriers to be safe according to international standards, said Badiola, adding that only Philippine Airlines and budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air were taken out of the EU ban.

Last year on March 10, the EU banned all Philippine air carriers.

The ban, at the time, was based on the assessment of the International Civil Aviation Organisation that all Philippine carriers failed to meet international safety concerns.
