Rumours circulating in social media channels about the drug manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser are false, ministry clarifies
Dubai: All rumours appearing in social media about the British Nurofen drug, manufactured by Reckitt Benckiser, are scientifically not true, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday, pointing out that no warnings have been issued about the medicine by the USA Food and Drug Administration or European Medicines Agency or Australian Medicine Agency.
Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing Sector at the UAE Ministry of Health and Vice president of Pharmaceutical registering and pricing within UAE, said that the action of withdrawing the product from the Australian markets has been taken by Judicial decision of the Australian court, following Australian consumer protection firm demand, because of the laws in Australia and UK due to which the Australian Consumer Protection Firm asked to withdraw the competing UK product from the Australian market and keep the Australian one. The ministry in the UAE received an official confirmation that no warnings have been released for using this product, and no deaths have resulted because of it. The ministry urged the public to stop believing in such social media claims without any official basis.
