At Dubai Health Forum, Dubai Health Authority’s Youth Council announced the launch of Dubai Hope Clinic, a primary healthcare centre where young volunteering DHA resident doctors will provide quality free health services to those in need.

The announcement was made in the presence of His Excellency Humaid Al Qutami, Chairman of the Board and Director General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and His Excellency Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, who suggested the name of the clinic be changed to Zayed Clinic in light of the Year of Zayed.

Dr Khalid Lootah, Chairman of the Youth Council, said the clinic, which will cater to those in lower insurance categories such as labourers and maids, will be launched next month at the Nad Al Hamar Health Centre. It will operate twice a month on Fridays from 3-7pm. “Based on demand we will study the possibility of opening it every week and expanding it to different locations,” Dr Lootah said.

“The clinic will be fully equipped with a pharmacy, X-ray facility and labs and four rooms that can cater to 15 patients each, totalling its daily capacity to 60 patients a day.”
Dr Lootah said the council was overwhelmed with the positive response from resident doctors, as out of the 350 doctors at DHA hospitals, 300 showed their keenness to volunteer. “This means we are set for one and a half years.”

He added that the clinic will provide family medicine, internal medicine and ophthalmology services and has plans to expand and provide dental services in the future.

Dr Lootah stressed that this initiative aims to not only target young doctors (those under 30) but also youth from various disciplines who wish to volunteer. “Medicine and nursing doctors will also be volunteering and gaining practical experience,” he said. The clinic is launched in line with the Year of Zayed and Day for Dubai initiative.
