A number of infrastructure projects to be undertaken as part of 2030 development plan

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has announced an array of infrastructure projects, setting out an outlay of more than Dh798 million for them.
Musabbah Mubarak Al Murar, Acting General Manager of Abu Dhabi City Municipality, said that these projects are being undertaken in the context of the comprehensive development plan 2030 for the capital and suburban areas and are aimed at providing recreational facilities and basic services to UAE’s growing population.
Some of the projects in the pipeline will provide recreational facilities in 56 locations in Abu Dhabi Island. They will include the construction of children’s playgrounds within Abu Dhabi, besides developing and improving existing playgrounds in line with the park layout design specifications of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council.
The municipality is also looking to make the capital’s roads more pedestrian friendly by providing more walkways, bicycle tracks and rest areas.
In addition, according to the municipal plan, future projects will include renovation of parks within Abu Dhabi Island to enhance green areas.
The Rehabilitation of Parks and Infrastructure Project in Abu Dhabi Island includes renovating Al Zafarana Park in Abu Dhabi Island, providing safe and shaded footpaths, special sports tracks and bicycles tracks, among others. The project will also ensure 90,000 square metres of play areas for children of various age groups and children with special needs.
As far as projects that have already been tendered are concerned, some of them will provide for irrigation reservoirs and renovation of existing irrigation facilities in areas such as Delma Street, Sultan Bin Zayed Street in Abu Dhabi Island and Al Khabira area, as well as other areas, at a cost of about Dh25 million.
The projects currently under tendering also include an irrigation project and landscaping works at Shaikh Zayed Bridge-Abu Dhabi Gate, in addition to landscaping works starting from Al Falah Street up to Shaikh Zayed Bridge covering an area of 800,000 square metres.
The projects will also ensure the protection of footpaths and parks by providing safe crossings, increasing green spaces, upgrading public facilities, and adopting the world’s best practices in designing public parks and recreational facilities.
The municipality also recently completed Phase I of the parks and infrastructure rehabilitation project within Abu Dhabi Island that includes landscaping works at the Shaikh Zayed Academy for Girls and many roads in Abu Dhabi, which cost about Dh10 million.
“As part of its social responsibility, the municipality has started providing and developing sustainable infrastructure solutions called for in the municipal system’s plan, which assigned considerable attention to parks, children’s playgrounds and green spaces, considering their positive bearing on the population. Such projects also reflect the municipality’s commitment towards the community as regards redoubling the green spaces and ensuring the integration of infrastructural projects along with associated services and recreational facilities,” Al Murar added.
