Abu Dhabi: Customs inspectors at Abu Dhabi international airport recently foiled two narcotics smuggling attempts to the UAE, one of which saw an Asian passenger trying to bring more than 2kg of Crystal Meth into the country through the Abu Dhabi International airport.

A customs inspector became suspicious of an anxious traveller from an Asian country, and summoned the passenger for inspection. A white substance was found hidden in the inner frames of the traveller’s bag, which turned out to be 2.245 kg of Crystal Meth.

The seizure follows foiling of another narcotics smuggling attempt by an Arab traveller. Given the passenger’s nervousness, a customs inspector insisted that the traveller be searched, which revealed 13.78g of hashish and 45 Tramadol pills, weighing 25.14g, hidden inside the smuggler’s shoe. It is forbidden to trade Tramadol without a doctor’s prescription.

The seized substances and travellers were transferred to the concerned authorities to complete the necessary procedures.

Saeed Ahmad Al Muhairi, General Director of the Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Customs, praised the Abu Dhabi Customs inspectors and Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Customs centres for their continuous efforts to prevent any smuggling attempts.

Saeed Saad Al Qah’tani, Customs Director at Abu Dhabi International Airport, praised the relentless endeavour of customs inspectors to prevent the smuggling of contraband and to maintain the security of the UAE, highlighting the readiness of customs officials to stop any attempts to damage the UAE’s well-being.
