Belgrade: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Wednesday inaugurated the new headquarters of the UAE Embassy in Serbia. The inauguration took place on the sidelines of his official visit to the country.

Shaikh Abdullah and Maja Gojkovic, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of the building.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shaikh Abdullah said the opening of the new embassy premises reflects the UAE government’s keenness to strengthen and develop its bilateral relations with Serbia and advance them to serve the interests of both peoples.

Gojkovic expressed her delight at the opening of the new UAE headquarters in her country, saying that the move will help strengthen communication between the two countries and their friendly peoples, and maintain their shared strong and distinguished relations.

Later, Shaikh Abdullah and Nebojsa Stepanovic, Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, signed two memoranda of understanding — one for cooperation in security and counter-terrorism, and another on driving licence recognition between the UAE and Serbia.

The ceremony was attended by a number of local and UAE officials, including Zoran Dordevic, Serbian Minister of Defence, and Juma Rashid Saif Al Daheri, UAE Ambassador to Serbia.
