Abu Dhabi: A series of 35 warnings has been issued to men’s salons in the capital’s Musaffah Industrial area for failing to meet the required health and safety standards, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport (DMAT), municipal sector regulator, announced in a statement sent today (August 22).
The violations were found during a recent three-day inspection of barbers in the area by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City. The campaign also aimed to raise awareness about safe working practices among salon workers.
Among the 235 salons inspected, workers at a number of outlets had failed to clean sterilisers for nearly six months, even though these must be cleaned regularly. Other workers did not store razors and tools correctly, or failed to clean up after every hair-cutting session. In addition, some workers did not wear masks, as required, while a few salons had installed makeshift washstands. Inspectors noticed, as well, that some outlets did not have first aid kits and fire extinguishers.
The DMAT called upon barbers to adhere to the rules and regulations in order to ensure public health and safety, and announced that it would show zero tolerance for stores that flouted the rules.
