Sharjah: Police in Sharjah’s Eastern Region confiscated unlicensed modified vehicles during September and October.

As many as 164 vehicles were confiscated during a traffic campaign to prohibit motorists from disturbing the peace in the neighbourhood.

The campaign continued after police received numerous complaints from residential areas.

Major Mohammad Khalfan Al Kindi, Director of Traffic Patrols at Eastern Region Police, said the crackdown aimed to stop motorists from riding in a reckless manner and disturbing the peace. Confiscated vehicles included vehicles with engines modified to make loud noises, he said.

Police patrols have been deployed on roads known to be frequented by youth for street racing.
