Dubai: A jobless teenager and his three juvenile accomplices have been accused of robbing a golden pendant and a cap from a worker after a knife attack, heard a court on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Sri Lankan worker was said to be riding his motorbike to a nearby grocery store when he noticed that the four accused were following him in another motorbike in Al Nahda 2 area in February. The worker chased the four accused after they took his cap on the run, according to records.
The worker was alleged to have been stabbed with a knife and his pendant was robbed by the Pakistani teen, 19, who was riding the other motorbike along with the three others in pillion.
The Sri Lankan reported the matter to the police.
Primary interrogations revealed the four accused as the Pakistani teen, 19, two other Pakistani boys, both 14, and an Emirati schoolboy, 12.
Prosecutors accused the 19-year-old suspect of robbing the worker at knifepoint and referred him to the Dubai Court of First Instance. The three other young suspects were accused of theft and are currently being tried before the Dubai Juveniles Court.
The 19-year-old suspect pleaded not guilty when he defended himself before presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi.
The Sri Lankan told prosecutors that the incident happened while he was riding his motorbike to the store.
“A number of persons were on the other motorbike behind me … they chased me for a distance and took my cap. Then when I chased them, they stabbed me with a knife and stole my pendant,” he told prosecutors.
A police sergeant told prosecutors: “Primary investigations led to the arrest of the three boys and the suspect. During questioning, they admitted that they attacked the worker with a knife and stole his cap and pendant.”
