Dubai: Reckless motorists in Dubai have been warned not to swerve on the roads if they want to avoid a Dh2,000 fine and 23 black points.
In the first week of Ramadan, motorists received a SMS from the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai about adhering to the UAE’s traffic rules and not to deviate from lanes.
In the announcement, the RTA urged divers to rest before driving and in the event of feeling drowsy, cautioned motorists to park their vehicle immediately in a safe and secure manner.

“Driving a vehicle in a way that jeopardises the driver’s life or other people’s lives is a traffic violation punishable by Dh2,000, 23 black points and vehicle confiscation for 60 days.”
A recent survey revealed that motorists above 40 years old were more involved in traffic accidents than younger motorists, and added that men are significantly more accident prone than women.
Thomas Edelmann, managing director of Road Safety UAE, said: “Motorists must realise that even if they arrive late for a Ramadan event, people will understand. Good time management is crucial and motorists are urged to leave early enough and allow for a time buffer to reach their destination on time. We need to display a caring attitude for ourselves and for others in this very special period.”
The report also indicated that more accidents take place on a Tuesday in the late morning from 10-11am, while the least dangerous days are Saturdays.
