Dubai: An air hostess, who misused Instagram and threatened to defame a man by posting his wife’s nude photos with her boyfriend if he did not pay her Dh300,000, will be jailed for three months.
The 30-year-old European air hostess sent a message to the Asian victim’s account on Instagram in which she mentioned that she wanted him to pay her money, otherwise she would post indecent photos of his wife with her boyfriend.
The Dubai Appeal Court dismissed the woman’s appeal and upheld her three-month imprisonment.
The defendant’s ruling became final since she did not appeal the appellate court’s judgement, according to which she will also be deported.
The European accused misused a social media platform to blackmail the Asian victim and attempted to extort Dh300,000 from him in December 2016.
The victim said he received a message on Instagram in which he was told that his wife had a boyfriend and that she demanded to meet him to inform him about his wife’s affair.
When he replied to the message, the defendant told him that she had obtained nude photos on her iPad showing her ex-boyfriend and the Asian’s wife. She claimed her ex-boyfriend was currently the boyfriend of the Asian’s wife.
The accused asked the Asian to pay her if he did not want the photos to be uploaded online, said the victim.
He added that the accused threatened that if he did not pay her the demanded amount, she would send the photos to his family in Azerbaijan.
The Asian transferred to the defendant’s bank account Dh40,000 once she sent him a nude photo of his wife. Then the air hostess demanded Dh40,000 for each photo.
The accused was tracked down through her Instagram account and apprehended by Dubai Police’s cybercrime section shortly after the victim reported what had happened to him.
A policeman said the European woman told him that she and her former boyfriend had plotted to blackmail and extort the victim.
