Al Shar’a says neither side can win decisively

Nasrallah says rebels cannot emerge victorious in the war

Beirut Syrian Vice-President Farouq Al Shar’a said in an interview to be published on Monday that neither his government nor the rebels fighting to overthrow it are capable of a decisive victory.

“No opposition can end the battle militarily, just as the security forces and army cannot achieve a decisive conclusion,” Shar’a told the pro-Damascus Lebanese daily Al Akhbar.

Meanwhile, Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, said on Sunday the rebels in Syria could not emerge victorious from the uprising.

Nasrallah, a staunch ally of Al Assad, said: “The situation in Syria is getting more complicated [but] anyone who thinks the armed opposition can settle the situation on the ground is very very very mistaken.”
