The low-pressure area spotted east of Aurora had officially become a tropical depression named 'Isang' at 8am., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed Friday morning.

'At 8am today, the Low Pressure Area east of Aurora developed into Tropical Depression 'Isang'. Tropical Cyclone Bulletins will be issued beginning at 11am today', the weather bureau posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In a separate post on X, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said, "All are advised to monitor updates from DOST-PAGASA."

On its 11am (local time) bulletin, the weather bureau reported that 'Isang' is moving westward at 15 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gusts of up to 90 km/h.

The storm's track is expected to take it across Northern Luzon in the next 12 hours before it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday morning or afternoon.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 was raised over the following areas:

  • Cagayan

  • Isabela

  • Quirino

PAGASA also added that Isang may intensify into a tropical storm by tomorrow morning and could even reach the severe tropical storm category as it moves toward the waters of Hainan, China.

The public is advised to monitor official updates from the weather bureau and local government units.
