Footage shows the young girl suspended mid-air before the line suddenly gives way
Dubai: A family vacation to the scenic hills of Manali turned into a nightmare for a 12-year-old girl from Nagpur, Maharashtra, after a zipline ride ended in a terrifying plunge, Indian media reports said on Sunday.
Trisha Bijwe, who was holidaying with her family in the popular Himachal Pradesh tourist destination, fell nearly 30 feet into a rocky gorge when the rope attached to her zipline harness reportedly snapped mid-ride.
The horrifying incident, which occurred last week, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.
The footage shows the young girl suspended mid-air before the line suddenly gives way, sending her crashing onto the boulders below.
Trisha was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she has been undergoing treatment ever since. According to her father, Prafull Bijwe, she sustained multiple fractures and underwent surgery a few days ago. Despite the severity of her injuries, he confirmed that her condition is now stable.
Speaking to media outlets, family members accused the zipline operators of gross negligence, alleging that safety protocols were inadequate and that there was a delay in providing emergency assistance following the fall. The video and subsequent reports have sparked widespread concern over the safety standards of adventure tourism operators in the region.
In response to the incident, the Manali Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) stated that the family and the zipline operators have reached a mutual understanding. However, local authorities — including police and tourism officials — have launched an official investigation.
They are now reviewing safety protocols followed by adventure sports providers to ensure stricter compliance and prevent such tragedies in the future.
As Manali continues to attract tourists during the peak summer season, the incident has cast a spotlight on the need for stronger regulatory oversight in India's adventure tourism sector.
What was meant to be a thrilling holiday experience became a traumatic ordeal — one that raises serious questions about the price of adrenaline in the absence of safety.
