Three young men were killed and eight others injured after their car overturned while trying to avoid an animal on the Kharia Mithapur bypass near Bilara, in Rajasthan, police said on Saturday.

The group was returning to Bilara after attending a social event in Jaitaran when the accident took place late on Friday night.

Police said the driver lost control when an animal suddenly appeared on the road. The vehicle rolled over several times, leaving three youths — Ravi, Akash and Abhishek, all aged between 20 and 25 — dead on the spot.

The remaining eight passengers sustained serious injuries. Locals rushed to help moments after the crash and assisted in shifting the injured to the Bilara trauma centre.

Residents from nearby areas later gathered at the hospital as news of the accident spread. Police moved the bodies of the deceased to the Bilara mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

Officers from Bilara police station said the group had attended the birthday celebration of the Bhakarwas sarpanch in Jaitaran before beginning their return journey. The accident occurred shortly before they reached Bilara.

A police team inspected the crash site and has begun an investigation into the sequence of events. Authorities said a detailed inquiry will be carried out to determine the exact cause of the accident and any contributing factors.
