Kapurthala, Punjab: A second man was beaten to death in Punjab on Sunday today over an alleged instance of sacrilege. The latest incident happened in Kapurthala. It follows the lynching of another man over an alleged sacrilege attempt at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Saturday.

Residents of a village in Kapurthala said they caught the man from a gurdwara, and alleged he was seen “disrespecting” the Nishan Sahib (the Sikh flag). In a video that went viral, the man who allegedly committed the sacrilege of Nishan Sahib was seen being beaten by the locals. He was later handed over to the police.

Though the police team reached the spot and took the man into custody, Sikh groups insisted that he be questioned in front of them. The man was killed by the locals after a scuffle with the police.
